🎨 Street Art & Ruin Bars — Budapest Explore Budapest's creative underground on a guided street art tour through hidden alleyways, then hit the famous ruin bars in the Jewish Quarter. Weird decor, great drinks, even better company.

🍲 Central Market & Cooking Class — Budapest Tour Budapest's iconic Central Market Hall, then get hands-on with a local chef learning to cook traditional Hungarian dishes. You eat what you make — and it's going to be good.

🥃 Unicum House Tasting — Budapest Discover Hungary's famous herbal spirit with a guided tour and tasting. It's an acquired taste — and you'll acquire it.

🛁 Bears in Excess Take Over Magnum Szauna — Budapest You know what this is. The boys take over one of Budapest's most popular saunas for a night. What happens at Magnum stays at Magnum.

 

⛪ Great Reformed Church & Water Tower — Debrecen Explore Hungary's second city — the Reformed Church, panoramic views from the Water Tower, and the stunning Botanical Garden.

 

♨️ Three Days of Thermal Spa — Debrecen Your hotel IS the spa. Three days of thermal wellness access at Hotel Aquaticum. Soak, steam, repeat.

⛵ Lake Balaton & Tihany Peninsula — Ferry across the "Hungarian Sea" to the Tihany Peninsula. Lavender fields, the Benedictine Abbey, cobblestone streets, and lakeside vibes.

 

🕌 Pécs — UNESCO Heritage City Roman tombs, Ottoman mosques, a stunning cathedral, Zsolnay ceramics, and the local Cirfandli wine. Pécs is a hidden gem most tourists never reach.

 

🌲 Normafa Hike — Budapest End the trip with a scenic hike through the Buda Hills. Forest trails, panoramic city views, and a final evening overlooking the Danube.

🍻 Local Bar Nights — Every City Every stop includes a night out at a local bar with Eric. This is a group trip — we do things together.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 — Budapest (17 Sep 2026)

Meals: None

Szia! Welcome to Hungary. Your adventure begins in the gorgeous dual city of Budapest with a welcome meeting at 6 pm tonight. If you arrive early, why not stroll around the grand architecture and boulevards to get your bearings. Maybe explore one of the local markets and pick up a langos (a deep-fried Hungarian pastry with different toppings). Why not head out to Statue Park to get an insight into the city's past or take a soak in one of the many thermal bath complexes around town. After the meeting tonight, perhaps get a group of friends together for a Hungarian feast of goulash or check out some ruin bars – unique nightlife hubs great for groups in the Jewish Quarter, these bars feature a whole heap of weird and wonderful decor.

Special information: It's very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late, please let Eric or Brett know ASAP. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

Day One

Day 2 — Budapest (18 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Today, join a local guide to discover a different side of Budapest on an alternative street art walking tour. Explore hidden artworks tucked away in unexpected corners of the city and learn how they reflect powerful political and social messages. This is your chance to experience Budapest's creative underground culture up close. In the afternoon, visit the Unicum House to learn about the history and production of this famous Hungarian spirit. The tour concludes with a tasting. The evening is free to enjoy at leisure.

Day Two

Day 3 — Budapest (19 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

This morning, enjoy free time, perhaps head out to one of the famous thermal baths (not included). Around lunchtime, join a guide who will show you around the Central Market Hall. Continue the adventure by meeting the chef who will show you the ropes as you learn how to prepare traditional Hungarian dishes. Get hands-on in the kitchen and enjoy the rewards with a delicious meal at the end. In the evening, you're free to explore Budapest on your own.

Day Three

Day 4 — Debrecen (20 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Travel by private transport to Debrecen by private transport, Hungary's second-largest city and a historic cultural hub of the Great Plain region. After checking in, join your tour leader for a short orientation walk if you're feeling energetic and enjoy a first glimpse of the city's main sights. Along the way, learn about Debrecen's rich history— from its important role in the Reformation to its vibrant modern-day atmosphere. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner provided at your hotel.

Day Four

Day 5 — Debrecen (21 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Enjoy admission to the Debrecen Water Tower viewpoint, offering panoramic views over the city. You can then take some time to explore and walk around the Great Forest Park, where your hotel is located. In the afternoon continue with a guided visit to the Botanical Garden, where you'll explore a diverse collection of plant species in a peaceful setting. Take advantage of spa access at your hotel for some relaxation.

Day Five

Day 6 — Debrecen (22 Sep 2026)

Today is a free day, and how you spend it is entirely up to you. You might choose to unwind once more at the Aquaticum Thermal & Wellness Spa, soaking in the healing waters and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Alternatively, head out to explore Debrecen's cultural side for example delve into local history and art at the Déri Museum or visit the Debrecen Reformed College & Library. Whether you prefer relaxation or discovery, the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

Day Six

Day 7 — Balatonfüred (23 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Today, travel by private transport to Hungary's beloved summer destination: Lake Balaton, often referred to as the "Hungarian Sea." Upon arrival in the charming town of Balatonfüred, settle into your accommodation and join your tour leader for a short orientation walk to get familiar with the area. Stroll along the picturesque promenade, take in views of the lake, and learn a bit about the town's rich spa history and lively atmosphere. The evening is yours to enjoy, relax by the water, explore local cafes, or simply soak in the lakeside vibe.

Day Seven

Day 8 — Balatonfüred / Tihany (24 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Take a scenic boat ride across the sparkling waters of Lake Balaton to the Tihany Peninsula, one of the most beautiful and historic areas around the lake. The ferry offers great photo opportunities and a relaxing start to your day. Discover the fragrant world of lavender at the Lavender House Visitor Centre. Learn about the region's lavender-growing traditions, explore interactive exhibits, and browse locally made lavender products, from soaps to syrups. After your visit, you can continue exploring the charming village of Tihany, with its cobblestone streets, panoramic views, and the iconic Benedictine Abbey.

Day Eight

Day 9 — Balatonfüred / Siófok (25 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Hop aboard a return ferry across Lake Balaton from Balatonfüred to Siófok, the lively southern-side resort town known for its beaches, nightlife, and vibrant promenade. Enjoy the scenic cruise across the lake, taking in the beautiful shoreline and relaxed atmosphere. Once in Siófok, you'll have time to explore or simply soak up the lakeside vibes before heading back to Balatonfüred.

  • Balatonfüred/Return ferry to Siófok

Special information: Ferry ride between Balatonfüred and Siófok takes approximately 1.5 hours one way. Time spent in Siófok is designed as free time, to explore another town, no organized activities here. We will spend approximately 4-5 hours in Siófok, depending on the ferry schedule. Passengers can opt out of this excursion if they prefer to stay in Balatonfüred and enjoy the downtime. Please pay attention and cooperate with your tour leader to avoid getting lost or left behind.

Day Nine

Day 10 — Pécs (26 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Bid farewell to the peaceful shores of Lake Balaton as you travel south to the fascinating town of Pécs, nestled at the foot of the Mecsek Hills. Known for its rich history and multicultural heritage, Pécs has been influenced by Roman, Christian, and Ottoman cultures over the centuries. On arrival, settle into your accommodation before joining your leader for a short walk to get your bearings. Don't miss highlights like the early Christian tombs (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the impressive Pécs Cathedral, and the former mosque of Pasha Qasim. The rest of the day is yours to relax or start exploring at your own pace.

Day Ten

Day 11 — Pécs (27 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Today, the town is yours to explore, so set out on your own adventure in charming Pécs. You might choose to visit one (or all) of the city's famous religious landmarks, including the impressive Pécs Cathedral, the Mosque of Pasha Qasim, and the early Christian Necropolis. Stroll down Király Street to soak up the lively atmosphere, browse colourful boutique shops, and enjoy a coffee at a local café. Art lovers shouldn't miss the unique Csontváry Museum, home to the visionary works of Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka. Be sure to sample the local white wine variety, Cirfandli, or shop for the region's iconic Zsolnay ceramics as a memorable souvenir. Whatever your interests, Pécs offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and laid-back charm.

Day Eleven

Day 12 — Pécs (28 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

With one more free day in Pécs, why not venture into the nearby Mecsek Mountains for a bit of fresh air and adventure? You could take a scenic light railway ride or lace up your hiking boots and explore the forest trails leading up Misina Hill. Don't miss the visit to the Tettye Ruins, once the site of a grand Renaissance palace, now an atmospheric ruin surrounded by greenery and vineyards. From here, enjoy stunning panoramic views over the city of Pécs. It's the perfect mix of nature, history, and a peaceful escape from the urban buzz.

Day Twelve

Day 13 — Budapest (29 Sep 2026)

Meals: Breakfast

Today, travel back to Budapest by private transport for the final leg of your journey. If you're still feeling energetic, head out for the Normafa hike. Located in the Buda Hills, Normafa offers a refreshing escape with forested trails and scenic viewpoints. It's a favourite spot for locals to walk, jog, or simply relax while enjoying panoramic views of the city. Whether you choose to hike or head straight into town, it's a great way to end your trip with a breath of nature. Enjoy the last evening in the city at your hotel, on the top of the Buda Hill with a fantastic view over the Danube River and lit up city.

  • European hotel rooms can be smaller than North American standards; some hotels may be stairs-only

  • Rooming: Hotels typically have two single beds pushed together. Confirm your preference when booking.

  • Final balance due 75 days before departure
